ThomasLiang

Thomas is an engineer at heart. He has been programming since he was 10, when he first wrote an app at a summer camp. He embraces the challenges and creativity in software engineering. He is proficient in several programming languages and development platforms, such as java, c++, app development, and machine learning. He has developed multiple apps using various technologies. He is a member of the FRC robotics team and founded an Artificial Intelligence club at his school, Valley Christian High School in San Jose.

Thomas is currently focused on artificial intelligence and machine learning. He enjoys participating in hackathons and working on various projects, experimenting with different machine learning tools.

Thomas met Harrison through their alpine ski racing team. He became involved with Fusebreakers when Harrison invited him to help at the cybercamp and at the MBARI open house.

In addition to programming, Thomas enjoys music and sports. He plays the trumpet and the piano, participating in Valley Christian’s Jazz Lab and Jazz Ensemble. He has also been in his school’s varsity tennis team since freshman year.

Extracurriculars

  • Extracurriculars
    Valley Christian High School Artificial Intelligence Club Founder/President – 2019 to present – Founded a club that teaches artificial intelligence and machine learning topics to high school students. The club covers various topics such as image classification, natural language processing, recommendation systems, and reinforcement learning.

  • Valley Christian High School Robotics – 2019 to present – Member of FIRST Robotics Competition team 3256. Key member of the software team for the 2020 Infinite Recharge challenge.

  • Music – Piano from 2010. Trumpet: Member of the Valley Christian High School Jazz Lab from 2017-2019 and the award winning Valley Christian High School Jazz Ensemble in 2019.

  • Sports – Valley Christian High School Varsity Tennis from 2017-present. Alpine Ski Racing from 2013-2018

Hackathons/Projects

  • Fall 2020: Worked on the Fuse Breakers’ Covid-19 project to predict which patients would require high flow oxygen. Integrated the AI model into the cloud to be run on the web.

  • April 2020 – UC Berkeley CalHacks Hack::Now – Used Google cloud software to develop an app that monitors busy-ness in stores and recommends times to visit stores during the Coronavirus pandemic.

  • January 2020 – Bellarmine College Preparatory Health Hack 2 – Created an app to help cystic fibrosis patients monitor and modify daily treatments using Tensorflow Keras dense neural network software.

  • November 2019 – Valley Christian High School QuestHacks – Used Tensorflow Keras image processing in an app that could detect various skin cancers through user inputted images of their skin.

  • February 2019 – DeveloperWeek San Francisco Hackathon – Used TomTom geofencing API to identify when a user enters an area with a fee, such as a toll booth. The app uses Google’s Firebase to store information and PayPal to handle payments.

  • January 2019 – Bellarmine College Preparatory Health Hack 1 – Used OpenCV character recognition to help the elderly correctly identify medication that they are taking.

  • Summer 2019 – Created a mobile app for Medical Imaging Applications llc. Carotid Analyzer.

  • Summer 2018 – Created a mobile app for Aerohive Networks to help Aerohive’s 14,000+ enterprise customers assist their guests with getting WiFi access. The app used Aerohive’s API and was developed with Swift.
