Christian  Brothers  High  School  Class  of  2021

Harrison Chu

Harrison is our founding president.  He is usually the first one in and last one out, setting up meetings before and cleaning up after. Harrison focuses on Windows security and is our resident expert for Cisco Network.  He has participated in robotics competitions for seven years with the team. Harrison is passionate about teaching.  He has mentored three FLL , one MATE, and one Boy Scout robotics teams.  Harrison enjoys building and assembling anything from mechanical to electronic parts.  Harrison’s ability to pilot the ROV under duress has propelled his team to win numerous awards at robotics tournaments.  Harrison graduated from Christian Brothers High School and received the Highest Academic Excellence award for achieving highest GPA in the school.

On the research side, Harrison’s work ethic won the trust of several physicians.  He was able to participate in medical projects.  The first one was a collaboration between the neurology department and pharmacy students to create an electronic patient medication education project benefiting stroke patients at Kaiser South Sacramento.  Even thought Kaiser eventually abandoned this project in favor of the education program developed by the Kaiser regional office, Harrison learned a lot about collaborating between various departments and the restraints that institution faces.  Harrison hard work and dedication was noticed by physicians.  In the subsequent years, he was recruited for other projects.

Currently Harrison is working with a team of students to create a machine learning computer model to assist with hospital resource utilization on the COVID19 pandemic.  It attempts to predict which hospitalized COVID19 patient would require advanced oxygen support (high flow oxygen, CPAP, and intubation) within 96 hours of admission. The team collected data from 300 plus hospitalized COVID19 patients in a local hospital from July to September and found over 45% of them required advanced oxygen support within 96 hours of admission.  This information was incorporated by the hospital administration to assist with staffing assignments.  Findings submitted for publication.

During downtime, Harrison volunteers at a local vaccine clinic to help everyone get the COVID19 vaccine.

Currently Harrison is attending University of California at Berkeley.
